Our goal
We built this website to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, the standard most widely used for website accessibility, and we check it against the newer WCAG 2.2 as well.
What we have done
- Pages are built to be used with a keyboard alone, with a visible outline showing where you are and a "Skip to content" link at the top.
- Pages use real headings, lists, labels and landmarks — the structure screen readers rely on.
- Form fields and search boxes have labels; results from the ZIP-code checker and the catalog search are announced.
- Text colors are scanned automatically for contrast against their backgrounds.
- Pages reflow for phones and for zoomed-in text, and animation is reduced for visitors whose devices ask for less motion.
- Photos that carry information have text descriptions; decorative photos are hidden from screen readers.
How we test
We test pages with an automated accessibility checker (axe-core) and by hand with a keyboard and at phone width. Automated tools do not catch everything, so we rely on visitors to tell us what we missed.
Known limits
- The map on the Visit & Contact page comes from Google Maps and is outside our control. Our address, hours and phone number are written out in text beside it.
- Some plant pages show a photo of a closely related variety. Those photos are labeled.
- Links to manufacturers' websites and to Facebook and Instagram lead to sites we do not control.
